Exercising Your Dog

How much exercise does my dog need?

Exercise and socialising with other dogs, either directly or through sniffing, keeps your dog's brain active, and both activities are really good stress relief. Dogs love to sniff and explore so make sure your dog has plenty of opportunity to go out and explore different areas!

We at Walkies rotate a huge number of locations that your dog will love whether on or off lead.

This means they not only have their own local 'territory' but also explore new and exciting places, on a regular basis. In our experience nearly all the dogs we have walked have had improvements in fitness, bowel issues, anxiety, obesity, barking, unsociable attitudes and many more problematic behaviours. When a dog is bored they can become unhappy and like anyone of us, can take it out on anyone that crosses their path. They can also show their frustration by chewing, barking a lot, going to the toilet in the house and excessive grooming.

If your dog has any of these problems then more exercise may very well help them cope better. Obviously if you’re worried about their behaviour, speak to your vet for more advice.

How much exercise your dog needs depends on their breed, age, health and personality, but every dog is an individual and may be different to other dogs. Discovering if your dog likes long walks, playtime or socialising with other dogs is usually the key to their happiness.
